Veterans in Schools

The MARTIN D. DENSON Post 6873 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States was invited to speak to the students of the Lipan Independent School District (LISD) in January 2004. Coordination for this event was accomplished by Post member Roy Ator. Cooperation and scheduling was ammicably arranged through LISD Superintendent Dr. Dennis McNaughten, Elementary Principal Sharon Mills, and High School Principal Edie Martin.

Post members participating were: George Charland, James Able, Dave Brown and Roy Ator. Also participating were James Addison USAF Retired from Lipan and Walt Eller YNCM(SS)USN Retired from Crowley.

The Elementary & Middle Schools were visited on Wednesday, 1/14/04, in a classroom setting and the LHS in assembly on Wednesday, 1/21/04, with some community guests attending also. Approximately 350 students, faculty, administrators & guests were exposed to this Patriotic Presentation. Flag etiquite handouts were distributed. Publicity for the event was published in the Hood County News.
