Shorty Lyons actively seeks your support for the office of Supreme Commander at the 86th Supreme Scratch in Salt Lake City, Utah. Shorty
has been an active Life Member of the VFW since 1980 and Life MOC member
since 1981 out of Loco PT 7 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
He was the key organizer of Three Acres PT 36,
Abilene Texas in 1985 and was it's first Seam Squirrel.
He was five times local Seam Squirrel during the past 18 years and
twice Seam Squirrel of the Year in the Grand
of Texas. Has gone up the
chairs in his MOC Grand District holding the title of District Commander
in 1989 and served as Grand Commander of Texas
1991-92. Appointed Supreme
Chief of Staff 1995-96, Supreme Provost Marshall 1999-2000, Assistant
Supreme Provost Marshal 2000-01 and was elected as the Supreme Historian 2001-02, Supreme Surgeon 2002-03, Supreme Jr. Vice Cmmander 2003-2004 and Supreme Sr. Vice Commander 2004-2005. Shorty
has consistently shown his support for the MOC in all areas of the
organization. In support of
the national and state level he has been the Supreme Horny Toad Chairman
and Grand of Texas Horny Toad Chairman since 1996.
Five times he has attended the National Home Christmas Party
presenting vehicles on behalf of the Grand of Texas Horny Toad Program.
He has represented the Grand of Texas at Tomb
Trek six times. Since
joining the MOC he has attended 18 Supreme Conventions.
Shorty is a Life Member of VFW Post 6873 Abilene
Texas where he was a charter member and key
founder of this post, and Aide De Camp for membership recruiting helping
this post to attain All-American status in 9 of the last 13 years.
He has also been a strong influence in the recent influx of new
members from the local Air Force Base, greatly increasing the number of
younger members in both the VFW and MOC.
Shorty has held various offices in his VFW from Buddy Poppy
Chairman through National Home Representative and Post Adjutant and Judge
Advocate. Shorty is a
supporter of every program around the post participating in functions
whenever and wherever they may be.
He served in the USAF for 21 years and retired as
MSgt in 1988. He is a Vietnam
Veteran. Married with three
grown children he has his wife's and family's support as well as that of
Pup Tent 36.
